About the Role

Emergency Healthcare Consultants (EHCON) is a pioneering organization dedicated to transforming emergency and critical care education, training, and research in Nigeria and the wider region. Founded in 2019 by Dr. Abiola Fasina, a specialist emergency physician, EHCON has quickly established itself as a leader in providing practical, skills-based training.

This is an exceptional opportunity for doctors with a passion for emergency and critical care medicine who are looking to build or advance a career pathway toward Emergency Medicine specialisation. Working directly alongside experienced EHCON emergency medicine consultants, you will gain hands-on clinical exposure at the forefront of acute and critical care.

The EHCON Medical Officer supports consultants in the clinical management of emergency and critical care departments. You will assess and manage acutely ill patients while on duty, playing a prominent role in resuscitation and team-based care. Beyond the clinical floor, this role offers structured engagement in teaching, training delivery, and research — building a comprehensive foundation in emergency medicine. You will be expected to lead training at the EHCON Training Centre and participate actively in EHCON-led research, equipping you with both the clinical depth and academic breadth required for specialisation in emergency medicine.

Why This Role?

  • Consultant-Led Mentorship: Work side-by-side with seasoned emergency medicine consultants, gaining direct clinical mentorship unavailable in most generalist posts.
  • Structured EM Training: Attend and deliver core EHCON courses including BLS, ACLS, and PALS — building the procedural and cognitive foundation for emergency medicine certification.
  • Research Engagement: Contribute to EHCON-led research, developing the academic profile that strengthens applications for emergency medicine specialist programmes.
  • African Emergency Medicine: Join an African-led organisation at the forefront of advancing emergency care systems — gaining experience in the specific disease burden and resource context of the region.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the medical team to manage emergency and critical care patients.
  • Keep up to date on literature and relevant advances in the fields of emergency and critical care.
  • Ensure availability when scheduled for duty.
  • Attend required training for professional development, including courses aligned with Emergency Medicine specialisation.
  • Become an instructor in core EHCON courses and trainings.
  • Function as a research physician for EHCON and work with research team members to assist with data collection, analysis, and other research tasks.

Qualifications

  • MBBS (or equivalent medical degree).
  • Post-NYSC with plans to remain in Nigeria for 2 years or more.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification (or willingness to obtain — training support available).
  • Verifiable experience in emergency medicine and/or critical care.
  • Doctors actively seeking Emergency Medicine specialisation are strongly encouraged to apply. This role has been designed to support your training trajectory — providing the clinical exposure, procedural volume, and academic engagement needed to build a credible application for EM specialist programmes.
