The role will lead the Society’s research agenda, governance publications, and strategic initiatives to strengthen governance standards. The successful candidate will develop evidence-based insights and integrate research into SCGN’s programmes and thought leadership activities. The position also involves collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to advance SCGN’s mission.

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The Head, Research & Strategy is responsible for leading the SCGN’s research and strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening corporate governance practices across organizations in Nigeria. The role focuses on generating evidence-based insights, developing innovative frameworks, and driving thought leadership that supports the advancement of governance standards in both the public and private sectors. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in corporate governance, policy research, and strategic planning, with the ability to produce impactful publications, research outputs, and strategic initiatives that support SCGN’s mission and contribute to the development and promotion of corporate governance best practices in Nigeria.

1. Research Leadership and Governance Insights

  • Develop and implement SCGN’s strategic research agenda to address emerging issues and trends in corporate governance across the public and private sectors in Nigeria.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and quality assurance of research projects, policy papers, governance reports, and thought leadership publications.
  • Conduct and oversee in-depth research on corporate governance practices, regulatory developments, and governance reforms at both national and global levels.
  • Monitor global governance trends, industry regulations, and evolving best practices to ensure SCGN remains a leading voice in corporate governance discourse.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with academic institutions, research bodies, think tanks, and governance experts to support collaborative research initiatives.

2. Strategic Planning and Institutional Development

  • Drive the development, implementation, and review of SCGN’s short-term and long-term strategic initiatives related to research, policy advocacy, and knowledge development.
  • Provide strategic insights and evidence-based recommendations to support SCGN’s programmes, advocacy initiatives, and governance capacity-building efforts.
  • Ensure research outputs align with SCGN’s vision, mission, and broader institutional priorities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to translate research findings into practical governance solutions, tools, and frameworks for organizations.

3. Publications and Knowledge Management

  • Oversee the development and publication of SCGN’s research outputs, including books, governance journals, policy briefs, reports, and articles.
  • Coordinate the production of SCGN’s bi-annual corporate governance journal by facilitating article submissions, peer reviews, and editorial processes.
