Seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to manage the firm’s financial operations, ensure compliance, and support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, integrity, and the ability to work in a fast-paced professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, billings, trust/escrow accounting, and general ledger maintenance.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports for partners.
- Oversee client trust accounts and regulatory compliance, ensuring accurate reconciliation and timely disbursements.
- Process client billing in accordance with matter budgets and fee arrangements; monitor collections and aging.
- Assist with annual budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial planning.
- Support year-end audits, tax filings, and compliance with applicable laws and firm policies.
- Maintain robust internal controls, processes, and documentation; identify and implement process improvements.
- Collaborate with partners and practice group leaders on financial matters impacting matters, matters profitability, and pricing.
- Coordinate with HR for payroll, benefits, and compensation reporting as needed.
- Handle ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- [X]–[Y] years of accounting experience, ideally in a law firm, professional services, or corporate environment.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and trust accounting standards applicable to law firms.
- Experience with matter management/billing systems and general accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Elite, Aderant, SAP, Oracle) and MS Office.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management; ability to manage multiple tasks with deadlines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Understanding of client trust accounting regulations and ethical standards; ability to maintain confidentiality.
